Dallas rap breakout BigXThaPlug delivers an uncompromising, heavy-hitting celebration of Southern grit and hard-earned success with his album, Better Over Time. Grounded in trunk-rattling Texas trap, classic chopped-and-screwed aesthetics, and soulful blues-infused beats, the project captures the burgeoning heavyweight reflecting on his rapid ascent from local underground favorite to mainstream prominence. Driven by hard-hitting lead singles like the defiant “Different” and the triumphant brass-heavy anthem “All The Way,” the record establishes a relentless, high-octane momentum right from the opening track. A carefully curated lineup of featured artists enhances the album’s regional power, highlighting guest verses from Texas hip-hop royalty Paul Wall alongside sharp contributions from fellow heavy-hitters GloRilla and Rob49. The album’s production landscape is masterfully anchored by his primary beatsmith Bandplay, who constructs a massive sonic foundation driven by booming 808 sub-bass, whining synths, live guitar licks, and soulful horn samples. Balancing fast-paced street bangers with slow-rolling slab music grooves, the arrangements provide an ideal canvas for BigXthaPlug’s booming baritone and effortless storytelling. Ultimately, Better Over Time stands as a rugged, fiercely authentic body of work that reinforces his staying power and cements his status as a pillar of modern Texas rap.
