Multi-platinum powerhouse K. Michelle’s debut country album Jesus & Whiskey delivers a deeply personal, genre-shifting celebration of her Memphis roots, Southern heritage, and lifelong affinity for traditional storytelling. Grounded in classic country twang, acoustic picking, and soulful vocal delivery, the nine-track project serves as an authentic pivot from her R&B foundations into the heart of country music. Driven by compelling lead singles like the whiskey-soaked anthem “Jack Daniel’s” and the guitar-driven, faith-reflecting title track “Jesus & Whiskey,” the record maintains an honest, emotionally vulnerable momentum from start to finish. A carefully selected lineup of featured collaborators elevates the project’s Nashville credentials, highlighting a guest appearance from rising act Blush on the track “Anything”. The album’s warm, organic production landscape is masterfully steered by acclaimed producer Kristian Bush, who helps craft an authentic sonic backdrop of traditional strings, steel guitar accents, and rhythmic acoustic strumming. Blending high-spirited cuts like the galloping, yodeling showcase “Yodel” with introspective balladry such as “Blame Tennessee” and “If It Ain’t Broke,” the arrangements provide a rich canvas for her powerhouse vocals. Ultimately, Jesus & Whiskey stands as a bold, boundary-breaking body of work that redefines traditional spaces while honoring K. Michelle’s deep-seated Southern upbringing.
